A Special Window
The window shown below was broken during the fire on June 6, 2011. Created by a church member family as a memorial to their daughter who died all too early at the age of 22, its beauty and significance was loved by all. After the fire, members collected as many of the pieces as they could find. We look forward to restoring it to its former glory and incorporating it into our new building.

UUCB Building Plans, UU Church, Brunswick, Maine

Progress! Here are some preliminary building plans, elevations, and a photo of a model to give a general idea of the direction in which we are headed. These are preliminary and subject to change. Take note of the date on each drawing. One drawing may supercede another.

Because our site is located within the town's Village Review Zone, the Village Review Board will need to grant a Certificate of Appropriateness for our architectural design. In particular the Board will want to see that our new church building will respect the visual character of Pleasant and Middle streetscapes and will reflect the scale, the textures, and the overall forms and relationships of those surroundings. The architects met with the Village Review Board on February 23 to discuss the proposed design. The response of the Board was positive and encouraging, which we greatly appreciate.

The Current Design
At a congregational meeting on February 12, the congregation voted overwhelmingly to instruct the architects to develop a set of plans that incorporate a renovated Pennell House into the overall design instead of razing Pennell and building anew.

The building design is nearly final, though still subject to change. The sketches, elevations, and plans shown below reflect the design as of the date specified for each document. (Note - the 24x36 PDFs are large and may take some time to load.)

The Sanctuary is designed for a maximum legal capacity of 292 people
