Interior fire damage
Fire Recovery Team, UU Church, Brunswick, Maine
NOTE: The Fire Recovery Team has been superceded by the Building Team.
This page chronicling the work of the Recovery Team will be left in place for reference.
We have chosen a phoenix as the symbol of our recovery work.
A phoenix is a mythical bird with a colorful plumage and a tail of gold and scarlet or of purple, blue, and green. It has a 500 to 1000 year life-cycle, near the end of which it builds itself a nest of twigs that then ignites; both nest and bird are reduced to ashes, from which a new, young phoenix arises. The new phoenix is destined to live as long as its old self but is not the same bird. We like this symbol both because of the birth of a new bird from the ashes and because of the bird’s “rainbow colors”. Those of you who have read Harry Potter will also remember that the tears of Dumbledore’s phoenix can heal even mortal wounds—another image worth holding in our hearts and minds.
Team Members: Judy Chamberlin (chair), Tom Rumpf, Heidi Neufeld, Grace Lewis McLaren, Dexter Kamilewicz, and Jessica Tracy. Sylvia Stocker, Nicole Shanks, and Mike Heath ex officio.
